A member of the public has uncovered alleged illegal activity at Willoughbridge Lodge Farm, Market Drayton, with multiple dead calves being buried on site instead of being collected, as required by law. The farm is also the site of the controversial application for an intensive poultry unit.

Campaigners are urging South Gloucestershire Council to reject a planning application that would significantly expand Pilgrim’s UK’s Westerleigh abattoir, increasing slaughter capacity from 19,000 to 25,000 pigs per week, an additional 6,000 animals, bringing the total number of factory‑farmed pigs killed on site to 1.3 million per year.

Plans have been submitted to double the size of an intensive pig unit near Matfen, increasing the number of pigs confined indoors from 950 to 1,900 at any one time. Local residents and campaigners warn the expansion would intensify existing concerns about odour, traffic and environmental impact in the rural community.

Campaigners are urging Braintree District Council to reject a planning application at Hubbards Farm after uncovering evidence suggesting the proposal masks a significant expansion of intensive poultry production on the site. 

Two planning applications to massively expand intensive poultry operations in Hibaldstow and Wrawby have triggered strong opposition from local residents in North Lincolnshire. Both proposals would significantly increase the scale of industrial poultry production in the area, adding a combined 3.6 million extra chickens per year, with major implications for air quality, odour, traffic, landscape, and animal welfare.

A planning application to build an intensive dairy unit of 160 cows on green belt land between Hindley and Westhoughton has been submitted to Bolton Council. Locals have been out campaigning against the proposal.

Plans have been submitted to expand Coombe Farm, an intensive poultry unit near Shirenewton, Chepstow, to house an additional 240,000 chickens a year which would bring the total to 1.89 million chickens per year.

Residents of Thelnetham staged peaceful protests this week in response to a planning recommendation to approve an intensive poultry unit and are heavily disappointed with the result. The development, intended to supply controversial meat giant Cranswick’s industrial chicken operations, has attracted widespread opposition over its potential impacts on health, the environment, animal welfare and village life.
