Sign the Petition: Stop a Bird-Shooting Farm’s Expansion Plans

Woodcombe Farm in Wiltshire wants to expand its pheasant-rearing operation.

More sheds. More suffering. More birds bred to be shot. Sign the petition to help stop them.

These pheasants are being bred and reared for one purpose: to be released into the countryside and shot for sport.

Is bird shooting still a thing?!

Yes. Every year, millions of pheasants and partridges are bred and released into the British countryside for recreational shooting.

Bird shooting also raises concerns beyond animal welfare, including the environmental impacts associated with releasing large numbers of non-native game birds into the countryside.

At a time when animal welfare and the protection of nature matter more than ever, we should be questioning the expansion of this industry, not accepting it as inevitable.

What’s life like for a pheasant on a factory farm?

Pheasants are naturally curious birds. In the wild, they spend their days exploring, foraging for food and seeking shelter among vegetation.

But birds reared for shooting can spend their early lives in crowded, artificial environments, with limited opportunities to express their natural behaviours.

And unlike animals raised for food, these birds are being bred for an industry whose purpose is recreational shooting.

Their lives are worth more than a day of entertainment.

Support CAFF’s mission

Factory farming is spreading fast across the UK. New intensive units for chickens, pigs and cows are being proposed in villages and rural communities every month. Together we can STOP factory farms BEFORE they're built.

British nature is already on the brink. Our rivers are dying. Our communities are choking on plumes of ammonia. We have to stop this before they even start to build.

Factory farming endangers human health and our communities, and keeps millions of animals in unimaginably cruel conditions. It's a breeding ground for disease and pandemics. It decimates wildlife. And it's a major driver of climate collapse.

Right now we're fighting factory farms from Norfolk to Northumberland. We're supporting resident groups in almost every farming county, from Lincolnshire to Shropshire, Essex to North Yorkshire. Most recently, we won in Staffordshire, where we overturned approval for an intensive chicken farm, sparing half a million chicks a year a lifetime of suffering. And we have several ongoing cases where we are using the law to stop factory farm expansion. None of it could happen without your support.

Your donation helps ensure no community has to fight Big Ag alone.
