The council's decision to refuse the planning application is now being appealed by Cranswick. The outcome of this appeal will determine the future status of the site, and will have lasting implications for the local community. This makes the appeal a decisive moment.

Objection comments
I am writing to express my objection to Cherry Tree farm and in support of Breckland Council’s decision to refuse the application and issue an enforcement notice with regards to APP/F2605/W/25/3375849 and APP/F2605/C/25/3375850. The updated 2026 Environmental Statement from Cranswick does not adequately address the concerns raised by objectors to the retrospective planning application.
Namely, the severe odours and air pollution continue unabated, a habitats regulations assessment has not been provided leading to serious concerns about the impact on European protected sites, and I still have strong concerns about animal welfare, as factory farms like this one are known to be inhumane to animals.
I am concerned that the updated Environmental Statement does not resolve the long-standing issues reported by local residents, particularly ongoing odour and air pollution impacts. The large number of complaints recorded over several years suggests that the environmental effects of the installation are not being effectively controlled in practice.
Furthermore, it is well established that factory farms like Cherry Tree farm contribute significantly to deforestation (for feed), biodiversity loss and climate change, causing a risk to both food security and national security.
Given the hundreds of complaints and objections raised over a four-year period, I believe the Council was justified in concluding that the development, as built, should not be approved retrospectively, and that enforcement action is appropriate.
