Take action to demand a sustainable food system
Add your voice: sign the petition and call for government support for plant-based foods
Factory farming is one of the biggest drivers of the climate and nature crisis. From deforestation to polluted waterways, and from carbon emissions to public health risks, the costs of industrial meat and dairy are far too high for people and planet alike.
As a coalition, we work to stop the expansion of factory farming through local campaigns, and to push for a future where this harmful model has no place. But to truly end factory farming, we also need government action: development of a food system that actively supports healthy, affordable, plant-based foods, instead of using public money to prop up industrial meat, dairy and egg production.
In a worrying sign of where policy is heading, the government has appointed Tim Smith CBE, Chairman of factory farming giant Cranswick plc, to its Food Strategy Advisory Board. This is a glaring conflict of interest: Cranswick profits from the very system that is driving climate breakdown, polluting our environment, fuelling antimicrobial resistance, damaging public health, and causing immense animal suffering. Factory farm executives should not be shaping the nation’s food policy.
We need to demand a new direction: one where government support is directed towards foods that protect health and the planet, not those that damage them. The benefits are clear:
For the climate: shifting diets away from industrial animal products would free up land, restore nature, and cut food-related emissions dramatically.
For our health: plant-based foods lower the risk of many chronic illnesses and help ease pressure on our overstretched NHS.
For fairness: public money should be used to promote sustainable solutions, not campaigns that harm animals, health and the environment.
We now have a real opportunity to push for change through an official parliamentary petition demanding the government promotes plant-based foods over meat and dairy. With 100,000 signatures, it will trigger a debate in Parliament - a vital chance to put plant-based food on the national agenda and challenge the influence of factory farming interests in government.
Act now to help push for a healthier Britain:
